Kaimuki Lion Celebrates 101st Birthday

Born on March 12, 1906, Lawrence K. Chong, who is celebrating his 101st birthday, still loves to talk story. As a child, he worked in the sugarcane fields carrying water. He attended McKinley High School and the Phillips Commercial Business School on Oahu. Chong worked at the U.S. Naval shipyard, in the Planning and Estimating Department at Pearl Harbor. Retiring from civil service in 1961, he also worked at the Lum Insurance Agency. As a member of the Kaimuki Lions Club, Chong is known as a faithful Lion and the oldest living Lion in the District 50 of Hawaii's International Lions Club, and he always supporting the annual chicken fundraisers.

Representative Barbara Marumoto presented Lawrence K. Chong with a House of Representatives resolution to celebrate his dedication to the community.
