Hawaii Kai
Tuesday, April 29, 7:00 pm, Hahaione Elementary School Cafeteria. Call K. Russell Ho of the Neighborhood Commission Office at 527-5769 for more information.

Continuing concerns: access to Koko Crater Trail, development plans of the Ka Iwi coastline and hillside, schedule and route changes by TheBus.

Speakers for the March 25 meeting included:

  • Suzanne Jones, recycling coordinator for the City's Department of Environmental Services, providing a status report on the curbside recycling pilot project in Hawaii Kai.
  • Wayne Yoshioka, director of the city's Dept. of Transportation Services regarding progress on TheBus route and scheduling proposals.

Following the status reports by HPD, HFD and the Board of Water Supply, committee reports were to be provided by the HKNB members.

Elected officials reports were to be provided by the Mayor's office, City Councilmember Charles Djou, the Governor's office, State senators Sam Slom and Fred Hemmings; and by State representatives Gene Ward and Lyla Berg.

HKNB announcements covered:

  • The status of legislative bills relating to Sunshine Law and neighborhood boards
  • The status of City Council resolution 07-379 relating to neighborhood board term limits
  • The report on Oahu Metropolitan Planning Organization's Citizens Advisory Committee meeting of March 19

Kuliouou-Kalani Iki

For its April 3 meeting, the Kuliouou-Kalani Iki Neighborhood Board will discuss:

  • The East Honolulu Bus proposals for its schedules
  • Updates on Aina Haina Shopping Center
  • Status of the Ka Iwi coastline and hillside plans
  • Proposed expansion by Calvary by the Sea School's third grade from 8 to 15 students
  • Waldorf School zoning appeal denial and lawsuit
  • Pending Public Review Draft of the East Honolulu Sustainable Communities Plan
  • Proposed adult residential care home at 5304 Limu Place

Community associations that provide reports to NB#2 include Niu Valley, Aina Haina, Ka Nani, Waialae Iki Ridge, Waialae Golf Course Subdivision and Wailupe Peninsula.

Waialae-Kahala
Thursday, April 17, 7:00 pm, Wesley United Methodist Church. Call Marie Richardson of the Neighborhood Commission Office at 527-5578 for more information.

Waialae-Kahala Neighborhood Board #3 meets the third Thursday of each month at Wesley United Methodist Church at 7 p.m.

At its March 20 meeting, the Waialae-Kahala Neighborhood Board discussed:

  • Neighborhood watch issues
  • Four-way stop at Aina Koa
  • Maintenance of properties by absentee homeowners
  • Street parking at Wesley United Methodist Church
  • Notification of street repairs to residents
  • Temporary vacation units

The Waialae-Kahala NB witnessed presentations by:

  • Kahala Mall
  • An after-action report by the Honolulu Marathon
  • A resolution regarding term limits of board members

Information about neighborhood boards can be found online at www.honolulu.gov/nco/index1htm or at the Neighborhood Commission Office, Honolulu Hale, Room 400, Honolulu, HI 96813; call 527-5760 to be added to the mailing list.

Residents in respective jurisdictions are encouraged to attend the meetings to hear reports from the police and fire departments, from elected state and county elected officials, the Board of Water Supply, and from area community associations. When hot-button issues are anticipated, meetings will sometimes see residents from other communities who wish to present their thoughts. All residents are invited to contribute, and are encouraged to take advantage of the 2- to 3-minute podium time limit to speak.

Anyone wishing to attend a Neighborhood Board meeting who has questions about accommodations for a physical disability or a special physical need should call the Neighborhood Commission Office at 527-5749 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at least 24 hours before the scheduled meeting.
