By the time she was eighteen Cherie Tsukamoto had lost both her parents and was self-supporting. "I was living on Kauai and needed a career path," she said. Tsukamoto applied herself, took and passed the real estate exam, found a small company to work for and sold her first house by the age of twenty-two.
Several years after she was married, her husband was transferred to San Francisco. Once again, Tsukamoto applied herself and became a paralegal, then found work with a real estate company in the Bay area. "Eventually, we moved back to Oahu where I worked in real estate management," said Tsukamoto, who has been in the real estate industry for the past twenty-five years.
After a corporate merger, Tsukamoto began looking for another position. It was important to her to find a company that understood family values. "I met with Jack Leslein, Principal Broker and Owner for East Oahu Realty." The business was a new start-up company. "I sat down with Jack and said, 'God first, family, then real estate' and after talking to him for fifteen minutes, I knew I had come home. He told me that 'it is important to work hard, but to balance it with family and motherhood.' That was all I needed to hear," said Tsukamoto, who is now the Broker-in-Charge. She continued, "Hard work, perseverance and staying on the same career path are the qualities that lead you to success."
