Season Two of ABC's hit series "Lost" may be over but the story continues to twist. We got a lot of answers during the season finale only to be left on the edge of our seats, a bit confused and wondering what will happen next.
If you're trying to figure out what all the hype is about you just need to do a little catching up, and you will get hooked, because if you're not already addicted to the series then you're definitely missing out.
The writing is captivating and intelligent, the acting is compelling and the storyline will keep you begging for more. Besides, it's filmed here in our backyard so you should support our local film industry.
You may not have time to watch television or maybe you caught just one episode but didn't quite understand what was going on. Don't worry! Here's what you do; go to Blockbuster and rent the first disc of Season One and watch the first episode. It'll make you watch the second, then the third and before you know it, you'll go out and buy the entire first season only to find yourself up at 3:00 AM watching episode after episode. HOOKED!
The award-winning show has certainly been a lot of fun, especially for cast member Harold Perrineau. Harold plays Michael Dawson who spends most of Season One building his relationship with his son, Walt. At the end of that season Walt is kidnapped by "The Others" and Michael spends all of Season Two trying to find him.
It was a long season both on and off the screen for Harold as his character Michael sets off into the jungle alone in search of his son Walt early in the season, not to return to the screen until the last few episodes.
"I just want to get back to work," Harold said at one point mid-season after he'd spent a couple months off the "Lost" set doing other projects.
Once he got back in front of the camera he definitely lit it up, extinguishing both Ana Lucia (Michelle Rodriguez) and Libby (Cynthia Watros) by gunshot in the same episode. After they were killed off, the question inevitably came up: Were Rodriquez and Watros eliminated because of their DUI charges late last year?
With a laugh Harold answered, "As far as I know, it had nothing to do with their DUI's; it was already in the script."
The finale concluded with Michael and his son reunited, driving off in the same boat that was initially used to kidnap Walt at the end of Season One. Michael is given specific navigation instructions and a promise of rescue.
Is it possible that Michael may have been rescued off the show for good? Sad but true, the character that we loved, then hated, and finally forgave, will not be returning for Season Three.
"He's not dead, he's just not coming back next season," said Harold of his character. "But possibly in Season Four."
Adding, "And it's not by choice."
But it's not like Harold Perrineau will be out of work. His career spans over 20 years in the performing arts and film industry. Some of his big screen hits include The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions and one of his personal favorites, Woman on Top opposite Penelope Cruz. On television Harold is perhaps best known for his role as the wheelchair bound Augustus Hill on "Oz" but he also had guest appearances on "ER," "Law & Order" and "The Cosby Show."
So what's next? "I wouldn't mind getting back into the movie scene," Harold said of his future.
Although his next project may not be definite, there is one thing that is - a sense of well being for him and his family here in Hawaii Kai. When they first moved to Hawaii the Perrineau family chose to live in a condo at the elegant Harbor Court because they were used to city living in New York.
After being cooped up in a high rise for a while the Perrineaus eventually came to the conclusion that "if we're going to live in Hawaii we need to try Hawaii living." After looking at a few areas around the island, including Kailua, they chose to settle down in Hawaii Kai.
After many of the cast members chose Kailua to live, Harold and Brittany said, "It's too dark and rainy over there. We like Hawaii Kai, everything is right here."
"I like living on the marina," Harold added, where he can hop in his kayak and get an outdoor workout or join fellow cast members on a boat ride to the BluWater Grill.
Immersing themselves in the community, the Perrineaus enjoy local restaurants like Roy's and Cha Cha Cha. Or they get outdoors, with Aurora horseback riding in Waimanalo or Brittany hiking on occasion with neighbor Alisa Huber to Mariner's Ridge or Spitting Caves.
"It was exciting to know that there were celebrities living in our community but it was even more impressive that we were accepted into their circle of friends, where we could all hang out while our children played together," Alisa said of her neighbors.
When Harold's not relaxing (or working) he definitely makes time for his workouts. "The Oahu Club has been a great thing for us," Harold commented of the facility where he took swimming lessons, played tennis, worked with a trainer and had an occasional kickboxing session. "I love the outdoor setting," he added.
And while Harold enjoys his workouts, you may find him at Serenity and Massage in the Hawaii Kai Shopping Center. "Kristen is probably one of the best massage therapists I've ever been to; it wasn't too soft but it wasn't too hard either. It was just what I needed," said Harold of co-owner Kristen Basden.
We all enjoy having the "Lost" star and his family out and about our town, but will Harold, Brittany and Aurora remain a special part of our community? I don't know, but if they do have to leave, Harold said it best: "The whole Hawaii spirit has gotten under our skin; I can't imagine not coming back!"
