Parent group logs on with My Hawaii Kai web site
*Archived September 2006 article
Thanks to the Internet website www.myhawaiikai.com, schools, clubs and nonprofit organizations such as the Friends of Koko Head Elementary School have yet another way to keep parents and the community current regarding activities and concerns at the school.
The nonprofit Friends has several active pages at the site, including a home page, calendar page, photo and artwork page, links page, and a survey page. Find them at: www.myhawaiikai.com/web/friendsofkokoheadelementaryschool/index.html
"We appreciate the generosity of My Hawaii Kai.com," said Friends First Vice President Paula Bender. "Parents can now visit our pages to find out when the next recycling drive will occur, how we're soliciting for prizes for the raffle and spaghetti dinner we are holding on September 29th, and to participate in our survey to help determine how we can best serve the students and their families."
Through the Friends' website, parents can sign up for email alerts regarding school events and concerns that can cover everything from the new lunch ticket system to crimes that might have occurred in the area around the school. The Koko Head email ohana is growing, and parents have remarked that they appreciate getting reminders about field trips, school holidays, or special events.
"We want to maintain a balance of protecting the students' privacy while alerting parents to the latest information," Bender said. "Teachers are also included in our email list, but their messages are sent as blind copies. If parents need to get in touch with a particular teacher, and if that teacher is on our list, we can get the message to them, or send one directly to the administration building."
For more details and to join the email list, please visit the Friends of Koko Head Elementary School website through www.myhawaiikai.com.
