Hawaii Kai Youth Baseball Registration Begins
Archived October 2007 article

It's time to begin registering players for Spring Baseball. As a convenience to parents, Hawaii Kai Youth Baseball (HKYB) wants to get an early start on the 2008 season. The more time parents have to plan their child's activities, the easier it is for everyone. The registration form is available on our website, www.hkyb.org. All you have to do is print it out, complete the form and send it with your registration fee to our address listed on the form.

It's hard to believe it has been almost a year since the last registration. It has been a busy season with many positives. Overall, the players, coaches and parents had a great time, which is the backbone of the philosophy held by HKYB. Baseball is a great sport for the inexperienced kids and a rewarding challenge for the older players as well.

One of the highlights of 2007 was the Pony Mustang Sectional and Regional Tournament held on June 8-10, which took place at the HKYB fields located at Koko Head District Park. HKYB handled all the logistics for this professional and competitive tournament. It was a pleasure to service our baseball community with rave reviews. The buzz was over how well the tournament was run and how nice our complex is. It was also nice to bring the Pony Tournament back to Hawaii Kai where it used to be held in the '70s and '80s.

HKYB also held our annual July 4th Goodwill Tournament on the 7th-9th, which was great fun with tons of ono food and shave ice. HKYB would like to thank Outback Steak House Hawaii Kai once again for their generous donation of burgers and time. As many of you know, Outback is always donating their services to the community, which really helps non-profit organizations like HKYB. We try to keep registration fees as low as possible, but actual costs are not covered by registration fees. Every donation helps.

HKYB welcomes all boys and girls between the ages of 5-14. We had over 200 players competing last year and hope to increase those numbers this year. If you live anywhere from Hawaii Kai to Salt Lake you are eligible to play baseball with HKYB.

The beautiful fields located at Koko Head District Park help make our league special. They are probably some of the best fields on Oahu. The grass is green and the fields are all surrounded by a tower designed for announcements and score keeping. There are also scoreboards located on each field. There is plenty of parking and countless picnic benches for potlucks after the games. It is a beautiful and peaceful area for the players and families. The City and County did a great job designing the park in the early '70s and it is nice to see it coming back to its early condition. If you are tired of all the congestion at other areas, consider HKYB and relax and enjoy yourself. We have plenty of room for more players and teams. Email our website if you have questions.

The HKYB season will begin on January 19th with Draft Day and practices will quickly follow. That will also be the late registration deadline and final uniform fitting. Please register early if possible to help the volunteer board get a head start on organizing game schedules, uniform ordering and other tasks. We try to make the HKYB experience easy and convenient for parents and early registration helps that effort. More information will be posted on www.hkyb.org.
