Opportunities Create Great School Spirit at Holy Nativity School
Archived October 2007 article

Holy Nativity School is dedicated to excellence in education within a small and personalized environment. Built upon the qualities of respect and inclusion as exemplified in the Episcopal tradition, Holy Nativity School values each child's individuality as it develops principled citizens who recognize their role in a global community.

Holy Nativity School, an independent, coeducational day school, enrolls students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 6 and offers a Keiki Co-Op for three-year-olds. At Holy Nativity each child is known. Providing students with a developmentally appropriate, integrated, research-based curriculum, Holy Nativity carefully monitors each student's progress through small and large group instruction, as well as individual work. In addition to skilled classroom teachers who provide a solid foundation in the core subject areas, students also attend Music, Art, Religion, Computer, and Physical Education classes weekly, with our specialist teachers. Teachers work collaboratively, insuring a seamless transition between grades, maximizing the cumulative effect of instruction thus preparing our graduates for a successful transition to seventh grade at Hawaii's fine secondary schools.

Our WASC accreditation assures that Holy Nativity meets or exceeds national standards. A highlight of our academic program is the implementation of Orton-Gillingham instruction, which introduces language rules in a structured pattern to help students acquire new knowledge while building on their existing knowledge of language. This multi-sensory and sequential approach to reading and spelling encourages children to speak it, hear it, see it and feel it!

At Holy Nativity School, students are provided opportunities to participate in special activities and events that will enhance their creative, cultural, and spiritual experiences. Such opportunities create great school spirit, which strengthens our bonds and our sense of community. In addition to class field trips, students may also participate in our Book Buddies program, the Holy Nativity School Choir, community service projects, activity days, the annual talent show and Intramural Sports. In this supportive, small school environment children build their self-confidence and are encouraged to take on leadership roles through student council, chapel services and in their classroom community.

Through individualized instruction, specialist classes, and class trips to the Neighbor Islands and Arizona, our students gain not only academic knowledge, but also a respect for themselves, the classroom community, the community outside the school and the environment.
