Known for his rare collection of Hawaii-theme films, Steve Fredrick has assembled a unique blend of motion picture images, coupled with a walking tour of historic Honolulu sights, that reflects the local scene during the war years.

On Wednesday, December 5th, a special screening of Hawaii During World War II: The Movies and The Music of the 1940s will be shown at 7:00 p.m. in a private VIP screening room in Hawaii Kai. The program features vintage newsreels filmed during the attack on Pearl Harbor, Porky Pig in a rare Looney Tunes cartoon and musical short subjects featuring Lani McIntire and His Aloha Islanders. "We will be looking at original film prints from 60 to 65 years ago. These films are not DVDs or video copies, and some of these films have not been seen in Hawaii since World War II," said Fredrick.

On Sunday, December 9th, Fredrick will guide a historic walking tour beginning at 2:00 p.m. in front of the Kamehameha statue downtown, across the street from Iolani Palace on King Street, near Punchbowl Street. "Ever since I saw the World War II newsreels, I have been curious about the Honolulu locations that I saw in these old films," says Fredrick. "I thought other people might be interested in seeing where the military personnel hung out during their off-duty time while in Honolulu." The walking tour encompasses two and one-half miles through downtown Honolulu and Chinatown. The sights include dance halls, diners, government buildings, historic theaters, pool halls, and taverns frequented by U. S. servicemen.

Reservations are required for all guests attending these two Wartime Honolulu events. The film program cost is $10. The walking tour cost is $20. Reservations are being taken by email at filmguy54@hotmail.com or by telephone at (808) 395-0674.
