Hawaii Kai Rotary Launches First Ducky Dash In East Oahu

“Just when you thought it was safe to come out of the water…”

Now arrives a SECOND Ducky Dash, this one sponsored by the Hawaii Kai Rotary Club.

Over 6,000 yellow duckies wearing graduation mortarboards will race to the finish line in the Hawaii Kai Marina on July 4, with the winning ducks capturing great prizes. Held at the Hawaii Kai Towne Center, the first annual Hawaii Kai Ducky Dash will help raise funds to support scholarships and other worthy causes in the Hawaii Kai community.

The Ducky Dash is being conducted with the blessing and assistance of the Cerebral Palsy Foundation that inaugurated the Ducky Dash thirteen years ago as a fundraising event in the Ala Wai Canal. Former UH Associate Head Football Coach Rich Miano is the honorary chair of the Ducky Dash, and McDonalds of Hawaii is the primary sponsor.

Duckies are being offered for “adoption” for a $5 donation each through Kaiser High School as a fundraising effort. Each adoption certificate has a coupon good at McDonald’s Hawaii Kai, Aina Haina, and Kahala with a check box for Kaiser High School or the Rotary Club of Hawaii Kai. The box that is checked results in a $1 donation to the organization by McDonald’s.

In Koko Marina Shopping Center, duckies may be adopted at Pacific International Realty Office (across from Zippy’s), Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Miano said, “What a wonderful opportunity to raise funds for our community and at the same time have some fun…With this event and the funds we will raise, we are creating opportunities for people in our own community. ”

The race is being timed so that everyone can stay afterward for the festivities at Maunalua Bay that evening. Prizes include a family admission to Sea Life Park and an overnight stay at Equus Hotel in Waikiki, as well as a top prize trip for two to Las Vegas and a four night stay at the California Hotel and Casino.
